Aguner Poroshmoni
Set against the backdrop of the tragic rape and murder of a young doctor in Kolkata, India, this song is an invocation for the purification of the soul, both personal and collective. Performed by female musicians from around the world, this popular Tagore composition blends the deep anger and outrage against the global culture of rape and violence and calls for a safer, more just world for women everywhere.
Borisho Dhora-Majhe Shantir Bari
This work holds a profound personal significance for me. It was recorded during a period of deep introspection and is a song of solace and tranquility, dedicated to everyone enduring discrimination and persecution. In the face of the pandemic's harshness, our world is in dire need of 'shanti'—peace—now more than ever. I offer this creation to all those who have faced injustice due to their race, caste, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.
Shomoy Achhe Ki Nei
Kamalini's first contemporary single, 'Shomoy Achhey Ki Nei' is about nostalgia, the idea of home and homecoming, and of a wistful soul perennially in search of an anchor. It is about the passing of time, but also about its circularity. A collaboration between Kamalini Mukherji, the singer, Srijato Bandyopadhyay, the poet and lyricist, and Joy Sarkar, the composer, the song captures the mood of Kamalini’s migrant life, divided between continents, and separated by oceans, and thousands of miles.
Aaro Dao Praan
“Aaro Dao Praan” (“Give me more life”), a popular Rabindra Sangeet (song by Rabindranath Tagore), is an appeal for an abundance of life and consciousness. This offering, conceived by Kamalini Mukherji, is musically designed by eminent music director Joy Sarkar, and brings together some of the leading exponents of the genre – Jayati Chakraborty, Kamalini Mukherji, Manoj Murali, and Sasha Ghoshal.
Bujhi Oi Shudoore
“Bujhi Oi Shudoore” (“Beckoned me from afar…”) is the first of these offerings. Yudhajit Basu has cinematically interpreted this song and Subha Mukherji has translated the song from the original.
