Kamalini Mukherji

Kamalini Mukherji is a New York-based vocalist, curator, dramaturge, and artistic director whose work brings Rabindranath Tagore into contemporary global cultural discourse through commissioned works, new repertoire, and intercultural collaborations. For more than twenty years she has performed extensively throughout Europe, North America, and South Asia.

A Gates Cambridge Scholar with a Master's degree in English Literature from the University of Cambridge, her work is distinguished by the unique combination of performance, literary scholarship, dramaturgy, and cultural curation.

Co-curator of a 2025 OPUS KLASSIK-winning production, her work has brought together Grammy-winning, Grammy-nominated, and OPUS KLASSIK-winning artists from India, Europe, and the US in world-premiere productions commissioned by the Duisburger Philharmoniker, one of Germany's leading symphony orchestras.

Since 2024 she has worked with the Duisburger Philharmoniker on commissions, festivals, and new intercultural productions, including a major orchestral song cycle based on Tagore's work. In 2026 she conceived and curated Eigenzeit – Music of Now, a month-long festival in Duisburg bringing together Indian classical and folk traditions, Western classical music, dance, film, visual art, literature, and food. She was also among the curators of the community outreach program, Marxloh Music Circus 2025, which won an OPUS KLASSIK — Germany's most prestigious classical music award — in the category "Classical Music Without Borders (Live)," recognizing excellence in intercultural artistic collaboration.

Her work has been presented on some of Europe's leading platforms for artistic exchange. In 2025 she gave a solo recital at the Martha Argerich Festival in Hamburg, and in 2026 she performed in the musical program of the India Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.

Alongside the concert work, Kamalini is invited regularly into academic and institutional settings. She was guest artist for the inauguration of the Tagore Program at the Institute for South Asia Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, and has collaborated with UNESCO and the Government of Mauritius on a cultural mission promoting Tagore's legacy through performances, educational outreach, and engagement with students and local communities.

In India she has performed at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the presidential palace, in a solo recital for the late President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee.

Her collaborators include some of Europe's and India's most celebrated contemporary musicians, among them Avi Avital, Alissa Margulis, Asya Fateyeva, Bickram Ghosh, Bijayini Satpathy, Concerto Köln, Kala Ramnath, Patri Satish Kumar, José Quevedo "Bolita," and the Aris Quartett.

She has released twelve albums, nine of them with Saregama, a leading music label in India, and numerous singles.
